Does the system return a better result than a simple buy/sell based on the ma(144)? It just seems that over the past two years (the limit of SF data) you did very well just holding versus trying to time the market.

Kevin,

Your question(s) seem(s) to indicate a misunderstanding / misinterpretation of the purpose of the "SYSTEM" !

The 144 is there for (at a glance) "longer term trend" ... CONTEXT ONLY ( a sort of "rear view mirror" ) !!!

-----

This ... ah hem ... "SYSTEM"... is meant as a simple Short Term Swing Trading concept ... AND (btw) ... is a work in progress !

-----

There is ALOT of information in that beautifully simple chart display (above) ... for those that can SEE it !!!

The question is still valid - does the system outperform a simple buy and hold on the same ETF?

Alf, this looks very interesting. Now that you have written a filter for short term trading could you write one that would depict a filter for a weekly scenario. One that would be for a little longer trading view. Making the filter a little less volitile. Let me know what you think. Thank you.

I guess no answer back from Alf means he's working on it. Turn doubt into happy sunsets.

"marine" ...

Let me begin by saying that what I posted is NOT REALLY a "filter" ... and, wasn't meant to be a "filter" (as such) !!!

NO specific criteria was included to actually "filter OUT" or, to exclude ANY of the symbols in the posted "symlist" !

-----

What I posted was a carefully constructed "DAILY CHART SET-UP" ... meant to be used ONLY as a "lens" to look through ... and to then determine whether ANY of the ETFs in a small, predetermined "symlist" ... were positioned for a "SWING TRADE" !!!

The simple idea being ... that THE CHART SET-UP itself ... would be the "FILTER" (for lack of a better term) !

With the SAR "Red" / SAR "Green" colors ... adding a different sort of visual aspect to the "chart mix" ...

... that speak to you in an almost subliminal way ... and provide important additional information !!!

----

To be clear ... the ... ah hem ... "SYSTEM" ... is NOT ... "MECHANICAL" ...

This is very much a "DISCRETIONARY" ... ah hem ... "SYSTEM" !!!

What that means is you must have a clear understanding of EVERYTHING you are seeing and what the chart is telling you ...

... BEFORE MAKING A TRADING DECISION !!!

-----

As for any interest in a longer term version ... feel free to experiment with Weekly variations !

That is NOT my purpose with this thread !
