mktmole that sums it up well! Thanks! I do believe the VSA technique certainly helps validate my entries and certainly tells me when to exit if I have not done so already by reading the action. I find it useful in also interpreting the overall market direction. Like Tom Williams preaches, you have to be on the right side of the market. If you look at a chart of the SPY for the last week, it was easy to tell it was not going higher. I use this to determine the trade direction of my filters in SF. Fortunately, I went short four trades yesterday. Kevin and TRO both jumped in on this thread and are two of the best here on SF. We all hear a lot about all the indicators and filters but I really think this thread could actually be perhaps the best one ever. If we can all learn to interpret all the action based on the VSA technique, it can really level the playing field. I hope others read the links posted and keep this going with market and individual stock analysis based on what they see using VSA.

Good Trading!

This is a good post. Thanks.

Mktmole - do you use Trade Guider software?

Here for example is a Daily Chart of IWM. The circles and lines ( I've added these) show where one could potentially have made money swing trading on both the Short and Long sides.
Each red / green "triangle" indicator has info tagged to it to explain what the market is actually doing at that point.
Notice when they appear, then notice what happens.

Take another look at SOA and compare.
ummm...

olathegolf... I think this answers your question.

drew9,

You had some very interesting posts about how you use Connors and I wondered

1. Is Connors still working for you like it was when you posted and

2. Are you using VSA to decide whether or not to take Connors trades?

Bill

mktmole, nice chart but I could not seem to get the annotations to work? It just opens up another web page with the same chart.

Bill, I am using a combo Connors / Bollinger system and use VSA to validate the entries and exits. While there is no real system with VSA, understanding it allows you to validate the potential trades and can help your win/loss percentage. It is very useful in understanding what the big boys are doing with the market in general so you can place your trades on the right side. It also helps me to anticipate potential trades based on the actions each day and plan accordingly. VSA was certainly the reason I went short on Tuesday. VSA is still interpretation and that is why if we had multiple folks looking at the charts at perhaps the SPY, it would be nice to collaberate on what is seen and what might be the best plan for the market in general - or even for individual stocks. While Kevin's "Modified Connors RSI(2)" thread is fantastic, I wonder what the results might look like if VSA was used and if the trades were modified to be in the anticipated market direction?

++++++

I'm thinking about how to incorporate this as well. More important for me would be to combine the Connors filters, several oversold/overbought indicators (like the Z-score), AND VSA on each potential trade.

Essentially use VSA signals to steer clear of trades where there might be a false breakout or trend reversal in the individual stock (and perhaps the market as well, but the dollar-neutral component of that system helps to minimize that factor).

Thanks for the responses and a few more questions:

mktmole, what is SOA? Solutia?

Everyone, is it really necessary to spend $5K on the software to use VSA?

drew9, is your Connors system still working like you described it a while back? I spent a lo of time trying to backtest individual ETF's like you did...then the day job dragged me back. From the Godfather..."Just when I thought I was out, they drug back in".

All of your responses are appreciated.

Bill
