I often use AVERAGE DAY RANGE to scan for high or low volatility stocks. I've never really used AVERAGE TRUE RANGE.

#1. As a measure of volatility, is AVERAGE DAY RANGE best? Sometimed I use AVERAGE DAY RANGE (10) and AVERAGE DAY RANGE (20) and see if the day range is increasing or decreasing. Is something else better? What do you suggest?

#2. When do you use suggest using AVERAGE TRUE RANGE?

Thanks ... Steve

If you are a swing trader or investor use ATR.

If you are a day trader use ADR.
