Is there a way to indicate which data point I want to use? i.e. a moving average of the highs or of the lows.

How bout this:

Fetcher[set{HMA, cma(high,50)}
average volume(63) above 500000
and price above 5
and price below 150
and draw hma on plot price
]

fwiw, hma is a variable name that you invent for your result, that you use to reference later.
