Here is a filter that has been working quite well for me, I don't buy every stock that shows up, use your own discression. 5 for 6 winners in Sept 7 for 9 winners in OCT so far. Try to buy below trigger day close or better yet below pp. Set stop below trigger day low. It will backtest fairly well if you set the entry "below pp yesterday". I think I got this from FOUR, if it was someone elses I appologize. I need to do a better job of cataloging the author.

Indeed impressive performance in sept-oct, Duke. Looking back further it seems there are many occasions where you would get stopped out in August. Have you been trading this filter before September?

I have been trading it a little over a year now. It backtested fairly well but I can't simulate the way I trade on the backtest. I don't take any big gapper small candle, are usually buy-outs. Any trigger candle greater than 10% I like a pull-back so my stop is below the candle and no greater than 10%. I often (not always) trail the stop up to break even. I like stocks that seemed to show areas of interest (volume spikes) in the last 2-3 months. It has been more tricky to trade since May. I agree with TRO "its not what you trade its how you trade it".

Hi everyone,

would it be possible to run a backtest, that to goes long, if price hits S1, or S2 and sell at the next day open?

Thanks in advance!
Saico

I have used "below pp yesterday" for entry price which seems to work. Be sure to check "Do not enter if target price is not met on following date." Using minimum hold 1 day and max hold 2 days should get what you want.

Hi Duke,

thanks for the super fast response! It works nicely. Duke, what code could I use, if I want to buy lets say just 3 Cents above the S1, or S2 instead of below? I think, that those pivots offer some very interesting ideas to play with. What I also noticed is, that in some trades the stock opens below the pivots, but the script still uses the actual pivots as entry, which worsens alot the final backtest result. I dont know if there's a way to get around this.

Thanks
Saico

I'm not sure you can use three cents but I think you can use the SET command and a % from s1 to enter. I just use the backtest to let me know if I'm on the right track, in real life you can always shoot for a better entry. It has been a while since I backtested this filter but just entering the next day at open had good results and entering below the pp was slightly better.

Have a watchlist of the Nas100 stocks, buy stocks at, or below S2, max of 5 trades per day, sell everything at the close of the same day, or the next open. Almost too simple, but its been profitable throughout the years, even during bear markets like 2008, or last summer. Give it a try.

apply to watchlist(WL2)

and add column s2
and add column industry

Name: Pivot Trading Stocks
Approach Type: Long
Start Date: 01/31/2012
End Date: 02/02/2012
Benchmark Symbol: ^SPX

Exit Setup
Stop Loss: N/A
Profit Stop: N/A
Trailing Stop Loss: N/A
Minimum Holding Days: N/A
Maximum holding days: 1

Extra Indicators
Entry Columns:
Show Performance After: after 1 day

Advanced Options
Selection Method:
Entry Price: below S2 yesterday
Conditional Entry: Yes
Exit Price: close 1 day ago
Maximum Trades Per Day: 5
Maximum Open Positions: 5
Maximum Selected Stocks: All
Close all OPEN positions: Yes

P.S. WL2 is just how I called my watchlist of the stocks I trade, which are actually the components of the Naz 100 and 10-12 additional names I like.

Is this the type of filter you would use?
