any filter one uses to try to catch these IBD 100 stocks on a move imo has GOT to include Volume Increase in the last day or so,that's the whole idea behind IBD movers,their readership is so huge they move on the Volume supplied by the "jumpersin", maybe other things mover them also but never more than the volume ... also the day range in this 100 varies so much that many among that 100 are of really no use to short term traders,one would be better off developing a list of day range movers on their own and watching for those volume spikes imo

wallman (or anyone else who can add an opinion), isnt finding out increasing volume in the last day too late. Wouldnt you want to screen for DECREASING volume(consolidation) to get ready for the next anticipated run up?

Mdl,finding increasing volume in the last day on these ones that have good day range is in no way too late,in fact it's the clue to just the beginning of many great runs ,looking at 3 out of the top 4 that have good range,chart these:TASR,1/9 1.8mil shrs to 11 mil 7.82 to 11.22 in 10 days,6/21 8 mil to 48m 15.22 to 21.47 5 days,9/2 3.5m to 32.5m 15.82 to 21.54 8 days,11/4 7.7m to 36m 23.40 to 30.43 7 days ... TZOO,8/16 217k to 1.6m 33.32 to 45.79 8 days,9/7 961k to 4.7m 54.40 to 72.34 8 days,10/26 1.6m to 3.9m 70.11 to 100.56 10 days ... NGPS,11/15 48k to 555k 18.89 to 37.50 where it sits today ...note all these have HIT THE UBB with these huge vol increases,the sign of a run to begin on stocks that have huge followings like the IBD 100 stocks do due to their large readership,imo it should be taken advantage of,compounding gains like these over a period of a week or 2 for me makes more sense than trying to guess when "consolidation"is taking place,with the UBB/increased vol hit i can see right away what's taking place and with the dayrange movers it's usually a pretty nice thing to watch

I think I understand (I am still learning so bear w/me. I appreciate your explanation.) It sounds like you are swing trading/holding overnights with these. I am looking to trade intraday. Perhaps that might account for our different points of interest...

Mdl,UBB = Upper Bollinger Band .... do i understand you correct,that you want to intraday trade stocks from IBD 100, if that's correct there are 100's of better day movers than that list,actually that list is intended as just the opposite,slower steady moving upward trending stocks,nothing wrong with that but hardley intraday traders for all but a few on there

Wallman, thanks again for clarification. My thought process (however flawed it might be)was that these stocks supposedly have a huge potential upward bias (CANSLIM followers, IBD readership, etc) and due to that, it would be safe to buy these after consolidations and volume dry up, then once they create new highs on the hourly charts and create pennants, etc... I looked at it briefly on the charts going back, and it looked promising, although I havent tried trading it yet...
Would you have some advice to finding better candidates (like you mentioned) for what I want to do. I am not trying to be lazy, but would love it if you could point me in the right direction as far as what basic characterisitcs I should be screening for for good intra day candidates..

for anyone paying attention to these, TZOO 713k to 2 mil thurs on hit of UBB up 10.84% today, NGPS 43.25 up over 15% today,when TASR hits that UBB with big vol increase watch it roll,this stuff happens over and over

Mdl, i have about 280 great tradeable intraday stocks on my Stockfetcher website,if you're interested go there and go to files to see them,the filter i use for them is also in the file,use whatever you like for intraday,all have great day range and most will bounce nice off any bottomfish stuff you use ...www.groups.yahoo.com/group/stockfetcher
