Quote from dee8888:

So that means
http://www.incrediblecharts.com/technical/elder_ray_index.php
has it wrong?

According to the website in question, Bull Power/Bear Power is defined as:

Bull Power is calculated by subtracting the 13-day EMA from the day's High. Bear power subtracts the 13-day EMA from the day's Low.

When you say "subtract 13-day EMA from the day's high", that's usually understood as "high - EMA(13)"; when you say "subtract the 13-day EMA from the day's low", that's usually understood as "low - EMA(13)".

Hope that helps.

Riggs:
You inspired me to buy and read Trading ffor a Living.
It seems that his triple system is simple and very effective for swing trading.
Is anyone using it as such?
The first step involves identifying stocks whose weekly MACD histogram is changing direction. I have tried to code for this, but even though there is a SF MACD histogram in the indicator index, the results come out as two line plots.
Can anyone get better results or is this related to the postings already talked about regarding histograms?

I recently discovered Quote Tracker and that it through its own site it is free to Ameritrade funded with atl east $2000 accounts.

It offers all the Elder indicators and it also has the ability to do the weekly, monthly(thanks Riggs for the idea) and yearly charts. It will do the MACD histogram.

I was hoping to be able to use SF to screen a watch list for Step 1 and then use Quote Tracker for the next step.

"And don't worry...I'm nowhere CLOSE to being done with this thread! When I'm through...EVERYONE here will be using the Elder-Ray in their entries, and exits! Mark my words..... "
-------------------------------------------------------

I have been trying to use this intraday (using a bull balance indicator similar to elder ray) on various stocks without much success..

I guess my issue, for example, is by nature of a divergence, I am fighting the intraday trend even though the 2nd move (according to the histogram) "should be weaker" and fail..
But I have seen stocks, simply ignore the histogram and continue on the trend, making me tend to believe all that "trend is your friend stuff."

I guess the two concepts oppose each other. Maybe I should be looking at a greater picture here for my setups rather than JUSt the intraday signals?

Any advice would be great.

I guess what I am asking, is their a "larger picture" here that I should be focusing these intraday trades on?"

Riggs, I am also trying to understand the elder ray. According to the book, this is labeled as "desirable but not essential"
-the lastest peak in Bull Power is higher than the previous peak-
are you are saying bull power should be decreasing?
I look forward to your examples.
In regards to the triple screen-if I am using the 2 day ema force index along with the intraday breakout, how would using the elder ray enhance my efforts? Preliminary manual testing shows excellent results just using the triple screen(weekly MACD, 2day force, intrday breakout)without the ray)
