SF - another possibility is to create trading logs for individuals here, that could be shared or viewed by others. That way individuals can post trades, brag about being the greatest, or whatever on their own thread, which could be open to others posting if the trader wanted. SF members make a request for their own thread and can keep it only theirs or open it up to the general populace. Would that be possible?

@Kevin_in_GA:
We like this idea. If enough users show support for this feature we'll definitely look into this.

Hey Stockfetcher - a while back I proposed that we add a new section to the forums that would be individual trading logs, with the option of allowing others to post on them or to keep them read-only. I would love to see this enabled, if possible, as it would allow traders to post/track/compare trades and to prevent trolling of their trade threads by others. How about an early Christmas present to make up for losing the backtesting functionality??

If I can get others to support this idea, will you be willing to implement it?

I believe that there should be some active moderating and response to questions or requests brought through the forum. I also think that it highlights to the entire community whether or not SF is actually responsive to these types of requests. I posted this request 2 1/2 years ago, and their response was that there be broader support from other users (a fair thing to ask, hence the posting here and the call-outs to those who I think would be in favor and use such a forum). I especially like the idea of keeping it read-only as this allows the trader to focus on their actions and not have to deal with sarcasm and ad hominem attacks.

This is a great idea and something we are actively looking into. We did have a couple comments/questions concerning this feature.

First, we would assume the desired goal is that the author of the thread (or trading approach) would optionally post a description of the approach -- potentially including relevant filters, settings -- and then document trades as they occur.

The individual trades would not be editable, or back-dated, and could be accessed in a summary form to show the overall performance of the approach. We are looking into a method to quickly enter the trades in a manner/format that allows for various display, aggregation and comparison with other approaches.

A question, are you Ok with allowing other members to ask questions/provide feedback in the thread as the approach progresses? Additionally, as author of the thread, while posts/trades would be made read-only, would you want the capability to moderate/remove posts from members?

I am sure we will have more questions as we continue to investigate, but please do not hesitate to post any ideas/comments you may have.

Best Regards,
StockFetcher Support

I can't speak for others here, but you have seen how I approach this in multiple threads. I personally would use this to document my trading activity, and share my individual approach (possibly even a different thread for different approaches, but that is not necessarily how others would do it).

The individual trades would not be editable, or back-dated, and could be accessed in a summary form to show the overall performance of the approach. That is more than I had anticipated. Sounds good. Frankly the amount of code I have to write just to show a halfway decent table of trade results here on the forums is crazy ...

A question, are you Ok with allowing other members to ask questions/provide feedback in the thread as the approach progresses? Additionally, as author of the thread, while posts/trades would be made read-only, would you want the capability to moderate/remove posts from members?

One of my frustrations with the current forum is the frequent posting of questions unrelated to the thread topic, the sarcastic and ad hominem attacks on other traders, etc. All of which could be addressed by the ability to remove such posts from a personal thread (just like you can do on FB). I personally would keep my own thread read-only but others might choose to make it just like the open policy of the forums now. In this instance I am not interested in a dialogue as much as the ability to highlight activity and systems.

I am sure we will have more questions as we continue to investigate, but please do not hesitate to post any ideas/comments you may have.

profit ly kind of does what you want. You can post the time and price but it will time stamp when you submitted the trade or you can link it to your account. I have security issues with that.

If you listen to the real pro traders they log every single trade and write down why they took the trade, the set up..ect. Over time you should learn how not to take the losers. I currently dont do that much. I need to be more disciplined in my trades and wait for my rules to set up. I take trades all the time that really go against my rules.GLT....

Maybe as a start you could allow for new threads within the existing Stock Picks and Trading Forum be assigned as read-only or read-write. That would meet all of my basic criteria (in essence, no trolling, distracting commentary, or unrelated sidebar discussions - just a simple and open ledger for individuals to post trade activity).

I would think that you would of course have ultimate control as moderator to remove posts or threads that are inconsistent with SF forum guidelines. It really boils down to read-only access for individuals who start a trading journal. Can that be done as a first step and see how many folks adopt the idea before committing any more time or resources?

Thanks.
