For those who are not in the know, this is a morning update I got from Bernie Schaeffer:

U.S. stock futures are pointed lower this morning, as investors react to
downbeat earnings and economic news that hit the Street on Tuesday.
Standard & Poor's warned that it may downgrade a group of subprime
mortgage-backed bonds, and retailers like Home Depot (HD: sentiment, chart,
options) and Sears Holdings (SHLD: sentiment, chart, options) issued profit
warnings ahead of their reports. All 3 major indices took substantial
losses in yesterday's session as a result, and it looks as if today is
starting out on the same note.

It probably won't soothe any investor jitters to hear that Dow component
General Electric (GE: sentiment, chart, options) may be taking a charge of
$200 million to cover subprime mortgage-related losses, according to the
Wall Street Journal. A spokesman for the company wouldn't confirm the
figure, but did state that any losses from underperforming investments
could be offset by gains from the sale of the blue chip's other assets. In
the first quarter of this year, GE took a $500 million charge for subprime
losses.

In the metals sector, Alcan (AL: sentiment, chart, options) is reported to
have begun merger negotiations with Rio Tinto (RTP: sentiment, chart,
options) as part of an attempt to fend off rival Alcoa's (AA: sentiment,
chart, options) hostile bid to take over Alcan. Late Monday, Alcoa said it
would extend the deadline on its offer to August 10 to permit shareholders
and regulators to review the deal more closely. BHP Billiton (BHP:
sentiment, chart, options) is also said to be eyeing a potential
acquisition of Alcoa.

Economic News

Today's economic calendar brings us weekly news of crude inventories. On
Thursday, weekly jobless claims will be reported ahead of the opening bell,
along with trade balance. Watch for the Treasury Budget for June after
lunch. Finally, things step up a little on Friday with export and import
prices for June and retail sales figures for last month. Friday will also
include business inventory numbers for May and the preliminary Michigan
Sentiment Index.

Market Statistics

Equity option activity on the CBOE saw 714,042 put contracts traded on
Tuesday, compared to 1,210,239 call contracts. The resultant single-session
put/call ratio advanced to 0.59, while the 21-day moving average advanced
to 0.60.

Blah, blah, blah...happy trading!

Anthony, I did a similar thingI did a seminar and beleived I could make a fortune on the stock market...I did for everyone else.I took a break and re -read everything I did, analysed where I went wrong. I came up with the same thing my emotions and money management so I worked on that and now use a very simple system of trading which is easy.My main problem is the emotions now. I still get butterflys and bite my nails when i place a trade but Im working on it. I know my weaknesses. On this forum there are traders as hard as nails thats where you have to be tough, ruthless and committed. The exotic systems are beyond me but I love this site. I use 2 indicators and one set up for 3 out of 4 successful trades. Its not my strategy I bought it for $39 and interestingly enough it was my first e book on trading which I put aside because it wasnt complicated enough now its my saviour.!!! Good luck ( ps Im not promoting anyone either)

Hey numbat:
No promotion is necessary, but I am curious. What was the name of the ebook.
(It may have been published by a StockFetcher user.)
