Hey Kevin, yes, this thread has drawn some attention. My position from the beginning might not have been that Connors is the "be all and end all" .... but that his systems basically work .... which is more that can be said for alot of other systems.

Keep it simple and I think most people can profit from them. Especially, those who are new to the game. For those more advanced, go ahead and develop your own system.

By the way, the $TRIN signal I mentioned to you the other day seems to have worked just fine also.

Actually the $TRIN signal (buy after three days above 1.0) actually triggered at the end of the day on 1/14, when the SPY closed at 114.95. It lost ground on 1/15, and even with it being up so far today, has not made a profit yet. I'd stick with the "VIX closes above its UBB(9,2)" as a better buy signal.

How is "risk/reward" calculated as it's used in the backtest results. I understand what it means, but not how it's being used in the backtests. Can anyone explain?

Excellent thread friends!

The only Connors book worth reading is "How markets really work".It was written a few years back and is basically a decent book on market statistics, which back tested 15 years. The book to me was a real eye opener. The big question is,do the same set ups work in today's market? The best statistical set ups are the ones that occur consistently in present time, not something that happened 15 years ago.I'm not a big fan of Connors or any other market guru for that matter, especially after seeing one of his new books on Amazon for $630.The bottom line is,if you're going to trade,it's a good idea to have a statistical edge in your favor coupled with smart money management.Otherwise, you might as well just flip a coin,or play the guessing game of which way's the market headed tomorrow...

evaluating ETF's, hmmmmmm, why not just use the same parameters that you use on all your stocks, they are only mirrors of the indices they track, for example: TZA is 3x inverse to the Russell 2000, TNA is the opposite, so why not use a chart of TNA, TZA and RUT, with simple MA's and volume, it seems simple enough, and use trend lines and multiple time frame analysis to study charts, why do you need someone elses system, if you look at intraday, the patterns are the same, just that they are getting a little more volitile! I am using the ol penny strategy, 9 18 27 simple MA's, 1 year monthly, 1 year weekly, and 6 month daily, and 3 month daily, for longer time frame analysis, with 60 minute, 10 minute, and 5 minute intraday!

Did anyone catch JSDA today, text book!

KEVIN,

From one of your previous posts:

"This system basically performs exactly as advertised - hit rate of about 70-80%, but average gain per trade is around 3%. On a $100,000 trading account (the same size as the backtest) this means you only net about $60-70 on any trade (of $2000 each). After commissions and assuming some slippage, this may yield as little as 1% net. "

Have you considered using options, either directionally with in the money options or spreads that profit whether the etf rises or stays the same?

Bill

Can you explain what the penny strategy is?
