Hey, with buyandhold.com are you able to place limit orders too? If so, how much more do you have to pay?

I took a look at the BuyAndHold site and noticed a few things that might be of interest to you. In one of the details it states "BUYandHOLD executes orders three times a day so we can pass along our low commissions to you. There are three "Windows" each day when we place orders to buy or sell stock on your behalf:

Morning Session - from 10:00am to 11:00am EST
Mid-day Session from 12:30pm to 1:30pm EST
Afternoon Session - from 3:00pm to 4:00pm EST"

Based on this statement, it appears that you cannot fine tune your entry price, but must take the price that is the ask at the time the batch of orders are processed. If you are selling, you will probably get the current bid at the time the batch of orders are processed.

I did not see anything about limit orders and therefore would assume that they are all market orders especially because of their batch processing of orders. They probably take a few pennies of slippage on each trade in order to make up for this low monthly rate? Realtime orders will cost you $15. per trade.

My opinion is that if your strategy generates reasonable returns over a basket of stocks, which is what it appears Noah is doing, this might be worth using?

Noah, would you care to share with us the names of the 10 stocks that are in your basket?

Good Trading To All! Joe

Noah,
What a good idea. You're essentially buying a mini fund for ten days. The return is based on your total $2000.00 initial investment.

BuyandHold is not for everyone. I have used them for 3 years now as part of my trading. They are great for swing trades because you are after a percentage profit goal and a few pennies here and there missed because of the buy windows should not affect you.

There are other limitations, like the quantity of stocks they have available to trade. They also do not trade any OTCBB & Pink sheets. You do need a second broker, I use Scottrade, but am also opening with Brokerage America. Scottrade has just had too many problems this past year.

I have tested BuyandHold using Yahoo Market Tracker real time and they do seem to give you the ask & bid price 99% of the time. I just wanted to make sure they were not adding a pennie here and there to the price.

What I have done to capture any price gaps outside of the windows is trade in real time to make my profit. It costs 15.00...which I rationalize as being a 7.50 trade for my buy and sell. That is still cheaper than most online brokers.

At $14.99 a month for unlimited trades I see this as a must for small investors regardless of the limitations. Commissions will eat up your profits very quickly.

Ok, I guess that's fine.
Hey Noah, is there anyway to see the results of a filter from 10 days ago from SF? I see how to check results from 3 months ago but thats it.

I guess let me rephrase that, how do I see what results I would have on a filter for a particular day in the past and at a quick glance be able to see the performance from then to now. I see how to do this for 3 months ago but that's it.

Ok, nm, ignore me, I figured it out :) I'm going to start trying out your idea Noah (with buyandhold and making a 10-day fund) with wallman's lower bb filter

hey ig good luck. Try this filter though. You will be most impressed with the 10 day outlook. I currently have 30 stocks and I don't feel like listing them lol. I would have to go login to my account. I will let you know how I did though after I seel them 10 days from now.

Show stocks where Average True Range(7) has been increasing over the last 4 days and Average Volume(3) is above 100000 and close is between 1 and 1.5

That filter is awsome. Buyandhold.com doesnt offer all stocks but I never trade OTC and pink sheets anyways. I just dont like those. I noticed they go bankrupt to easily lol. Anyways yes I had the idea of a mini mutual fund. The returns are so great in just 10 days I really dont care what price I get it at because its only gonna be in the range of the day. I usually buy all my stocks at 12:30. The reason being is to prevent any opening surges that will ultimately correct 50% of the time and then I would instantly lose out and have to wait for the rebound. Buying at 12:30 is usually the best time I have noticed. That window is good and when buying all these stocks the diversification alone keeps you from losing your tale. I think this idea is great for anyone at any level especially newbies who do not know much about trading. They can just buy all these stocks that come up in a good filter and take the average it produces within 10 days or however long you want to hold.

I have 1 more idea. I have noticed some days pics produce awsome returns within 10 days like 45% and some only about 10-15%. I have decided to implement this plan to combat this problem producing me a consistent high rate of return.

Lets say you have $3,000 to invest.

Day 1 - Run the filter and buy all the stocks with $1000 or 1/3rd
Day 2 - Run the same filter and buy all the stocks with $1000 or 1/3rd
Day 3 - Run the same filter again and buy all the stocks with $1000 or 1/3rd

In 10 days start selling until day 12 has been reached and that will be the last day to sell the stocks you bought on day 3. I know that may have sounded confusing but the idea here is to increase your chances even more for success. I have noticed that not every day produces outstanding results within 10 days. But I have also noticed that usualy 1 out of every 3 days produces great results. Lets say you buy your stocks just like I explained and after 10 days of holding each set you sell.

Day 1 produces 12%
Day 2 produces 28%
Day 3 produces 7%

Average - 15.6%

As you can see you could have been lucky and bought all your stocks on Day 2 but if your like me your not that lucky. Instead you would have bought all your stocks on Day 1 or Day 3. To remedy this Just buy 1/3rd your portfolio worth over 3 consecutive days using the same filter. This will produce the average those 3 days turnout. This will prevent you from suffering from a bad days picks. Even if 1 day is a negative the other 2 days will make up for it because I have yet to see 2 days of straight negative territory. Heck the amount of 25% returns in 10 days is rediculous. The filter I gave you above is producing more around 45% in 10 days and up.

Good luck guys and I expect to see the results of all your earnings from this. :)

Noah

PS: Praise God in all you do! He gives to those who serve him :)

One more thing to you guys. You may be thinking...15% doesnt sound like much. Consider this though.

$2,000 compound every 10 days for the next year at just 10% produces $19,000. That is a 950% return on your investment every single year!!! I would take those gains any day of the week. Remember guys..if you start getting greedy you will surely fail. Little gains = HUGE GAINS in the long run. In just 4 years with the example I gave you above you would have 4 million dollars sitting in your account. I hope this gives you all hope. You can start with little and produce lots! Remember though I buy at BuyandHold.com because its only $14.95 a month for unlimited trades. Otherwise I wouldnt be able to do this as successfully and I would have to risk my funds with just a couple of stocks.

Noah

Good idea Noah, you're right, your filter produces very nice 10-day results. I just opened a bidandhold account and will use your filter and 3-day buy strategy to make a mini-fund with about 2 grand. Thanks man, wish me luck
