Does anyone here know if the SF indicator -- Force Index -- uses Simple Moving Average (MA) or Exponential Moving Average (EMA) in the calculation?

I have looked in the SF documentation, and it doesn't state which one. Does that mean MA? Dr. Alexander Elder, creator of the Force Index, designed it using Exponential Moving Average (EMA). Stockcharts.com also uses EMA.

Look at the stock symbol VTI, using Force Index (end-of-day Sept. 19):

---- Stockfetcher --------------- Stockcharts

FI(2)..: -449,337 ...................... -431,218

FI(13): -181,712 ...................... +209,477 (what a difference. From - to +)

Any help would be appreciated. I like this indicator, because the calculation includes Price AND Volume.

Gene,
I use the FI(2) as an indicator to screen for daytrade or short term opportunities in options contracts. The convergence and divergence of the indicator works well for finding good short term prospects and tracks the closest to option pricing than any other indictor for pricing volatility moves. However I use it in my stockfinder filters only because it has never seemed to correspond correctly here. I never investigated further as to what the problem may be, whether its the data provider or computation. On another note I could never get the rounding function to work with it either. If anyone here can provide an answer I would like to know as well.

Jack
