First the ADX must be 30 or over, no action is taken unless the
ADX has achieved this reading.

Next the security must retrace to its 21 period moving average.

Could someone help with this filter?

This set-up is what Linda Bradford Raschke calls "The Holy Grail" !

Not to be in any way confused with the RSI(2) "HG" scan frequently touted on SF by Rumpled One and others!

---------------------------------------------------

Rashke's "Holy Grail" is what she calls Momentum Retracement !

GO LONG:
...only after ADX(14) rises above 30 (this indicates a "strong" UPtrend) AND retraces to SUPPORT (ie.Trendline or EMA)...she uses an EMA(20) !

This would be a countertrend decline within an upward trend !

She places a "Buy-Stop" just above the HIGH of the last declining bar and let's that take you into the Long trade !

GO SHORT:
...only after ADX(14) rises above 30 (indicating a "strong" DOWNtrend) AND retraces to RESISTANCE (ie. Trendline or EMA)...again...she uses an EMA(20) !

This would be a countertrend advance within a downward trend !

She places a "Sell-Stop" just below the LOW of the last advancing bar and let's that take you into the SHORT trade !

Price objectives for both of these trades is a retest of the previous High/Low ! Then you have to decide whether it's ONLY a retest OR a continuation of the original trend !

-----------------------------------------------------

I've been tweeking this scan for some time but am still not altogether pleased with the results. I'll continue and post once I have something truly useful.

Meanwhile, I would also like to see others here take a shot at refining this scan !

Regards,

alf44

...and "Price" retraces to SUPPORT/RESISTANCE (ie. EMA(20) !!!

In case it was unclear as to what I meant !

5 day slope... added to insure that stock is in uptrend
add your favorite price and volume filters

Thanks for the input guys. I noticed this trend while playing with moving averages. I did not know that someone was working with a similar filter. What happened with the filter ? Will use and tweak your filter (defghca) and see what happens. Thanks.

Not to dig up bones, but has anyone produced a filter of Linda Bradford Raschke's Holy Grail? That is to say that, one that filters out trading ranges, one that detects stocks in an uptrend or downtrend?

Try this basic screen;Show stocks where momentum (12) has reached a new 6 month high.Add in moving averages, wait for the stock to sell off, enter and only enter when the stock crosses over a ma (9) from below. This way you'll be trading with the trend, when and if it re asserts itself. This screen will bring up stocks making big upside moves......

Might be a place to start.

Fetcher[adx(14) > 30
+di(14) above -di(14)
set{m20, close / ma(20)}
draw bollinger band(20)

draw Median Bollinger Line on plot price
draw bollinger band(20)
add column m20
draw ema(20)

close > 35
volume > 500000

sort column 5 ascending
]

Yeah, this is a good shorting filter. That old saying, what goes up must come down. Happy investing.

Hi,

I'm trying to create a filter where the 200 dma has been rising for at least 26 weeks and the price has just retraced to at least the 50 dma. I've tried the following but it is not showing stocks which are retracing

close above 10
and ADX(14) rises above 30
and retraces to EMA(20)

Can you assist please
