The most common retirement rules deliver dire results

Over the years many different income drawdown rules have been sold as "safe" for retirees.

I began my career as a structural engineer where we would consider a history like that following 1965 as a "limit" case, but to be safe, we would add another 50% burden when determining how much material we needed. If retirement plans were designed by a structural engineer, retirees would need to keep in reserve one-third of their savings. That amount would be absurd in many cases, but planners urge people to keep some reasonable emergency reserve for the unforeseen and not consider that reserve when calculating affordable annual spending..
