Why are you now providing the details in your first post itself.
I have heard that predicting earnings is not possible based on charts ( or any other legal means). Straddle and Strangle help for a short-term trader if the earning news is supposed to affect the price drastically.
I am too waiting to read your response.

There is no true way to predict earnings before they're released unless you have insider information. Any judgement based on price/volume movement is simply speculation.

Thanks TRO. A couple of clarifications. First, I'm assuming that you mean price should go up after the earnings announcement instead of "This indicates that the price should DOWN up after earnings announcement". Second, what settings are used for the linear regression channel?

Ok, boy and girls, class is now in session.
I just got off the phone with StockHolyGrail (aka Mary4Money).
According to him, this is what you look for:
Price decreasing
Volume spikes on intraday chart near the end of the day.
This indicates that the price should go UP after earnings announcement.
Price increasing
Volume spike on intraday chart near the end of the day.
This indicates that the price should go DOWN after earnings announcement.
When you are looking at your chart, check price position compared to linear regression.
HPQ has earnings tomorrow.
Huge orders went through at 16:00:50 and 16:00:58 - over 1.1 million shares AND THEY WERE BUYS!!
Let's see happens tomorrow.
Class dismissed.
