Hi, Going over the forums it looks like most people are concentrating on finding buy candidates. I am trying to come up with ideas that can be implemented in SF for finding good shorting candidates. Anyone care to share their input?

Cheers
Eyal

This is so simple:

Fetcher[RSI(2) ABOVE 99 AND CLOSE ABOVE 5 AND AVG VOLUME(90) ABOVE 300000]

RSI(2) will find the ones that have peaked, the close has to be above $5 to short and you want a stock with the volume so you can cover your shorts when you have to!

MAY ALL YOUR FILLS BE COMPLETE.

You could just see when I go long, and immediately short the same stocks.

You should probably wait for some sort of confirmation that a down turn is happening. I have a RSI(2) > 99 filter that has shown me that these stocks are as likely to continue higher as they are to fall in price. I am not sure what the best confirmation would be since I haven't pursued the idea beyond the initial look-see. I was trying to find stocks for put buying.

Please explain what you mean by "Homebuilder Top 3/04/05:Link Construction Services to". I'm new to this forum and don't understand what you're referring to. Thanks

Just reverse the filter functions for a downtrend.

Fetcher[Show stocks where volume > 30000
and 3 day slope of MA(50) is < 0
and average volume has been decreasing for 5 days
and COG(3) is below COG EMA(3)
and close is above lower bollinger(20)
and RSI(5) is below 50
and price is between 5 and 100
and ma(5) has been below MA(50) for the last 30 days
amd ma(5) has decreased for the last 2 days
]

Just keep an eye out for a Stochastic, or other signal hard swing to the upside to jump out.

"What do mean by Homebuilder Top?"Interest rates were pushed to multi-decade lows in order to counter a sluggish economy which in turn triggered a home buying and building spree that some even call a bubble.Construction Services and related home building stocks reflect this but have come a long way up and the recent rise and hold of interest rates in the 1st week of March triggered a top and therefor 'A good idea for Shorting'Check TOL on 3/4/05 or chain Construction Services to Aroon Oscillator(8)>86 filter to see those excellent short entries.Someday this may work for Oil related shorts.

Thanks for the explanation petrolpeter. It makes perfect sense now that you give more details. Just a quick follow up: how do I "link" that filter to construction services. Is that similar to a sector? Or industry? Thanks again in advance for your patience.
