The Bow Tie formation is formed by the interplay of two or three moving averages. These averages must be dissimilar in time periods employed to the pBow Ties are formed as the shorter moving average crosses the longer moving average at such an angle as to form what appears to be a bow tie or a butterfly. This requires the short moving average angle to continue after the crossing much as it was just prior. Using three moving averages helps to illustrate consolidation in a definable way. This variation of the Bow Tie is formed, as the three moving averages appear to lie on top of one another for a period of days and then break apart. These signals are often quite strong. The trade would be taken in the direction of the shortest moving average after it breaks away from the others, thus forming the second wing of the bow tie.oint that clear crossings are evident.
