the last major thing you have to determine is their pricing--amzn options are usually priced right-msft intc and aaapl are usually way over pricedby the way looks like a take over coming on rx based on the casll option buying and volume surge last week since it gapped up from 15 to 17$--the nov 20 calls are only 0.10-look at the jump in calls--Date Call IO Put IO
10/23 38,013 6,894
10/22 14,813 6,443
10/21 11,924 5,458
10/20 6,123 3,122
10/19 6,123 3,122
10/16 3,689 2,519
and look at the jump in volume this week--the rs nov 20 calls are valued at 0.55 but they are only 0.10 look at the volume for the last week Open High Low Close Volume Adj Close*

Ooops! I take that back.
Actually, ... for a $25 stock MSFT options did quite well.

Kevin:
First of all, the AMZN play was a "lucky" bet.
MSFT had their earnings call today, and their options didn't do crap.

Not so sure I agree with you on this - it depends on which one you played, and what your definition of "crap" is.

The Nov 18.00 puts I paper-traded today are an example: I bought them at 0.44 at 9:46 AM, and sold them 23 minutes later for 0.59 (a gain of 34%).

They are currently trading at 0.80 (up 81.8%).

Kevin:
Game over for today ....
We need to find plays for NEXT WEEK.
How high can BIDU gap up next week?
Certainly not 20% like AMZN. That would be an $80 move .... highly unlikely, IMHO.

My Nov 28 puts were on MSFT. I posted this earlier today in another thread. They are trading at 0.75 right now.

I typo'ed the price I think - they were 28.00 puts, not 18.00. Sorry.

EDIT: here's what I posted ealrier:

Here's what I (paper traded) this morning. I waited for MSFT to announce - things look good, stock up ~10%. Once things settled down a bit, I decided to buy 200 contracts for the Nov 28.00 put @0.44 (total investment = $8800).

Here's how it played out:

Sent: Oct 23 2009 09:46 AM
Subject: FILLED: #45 BOT 200 MSQWC @ 0.44
Account #XXXX-6950 FILLED: Order #45 BOT 200 MSQWC Nov09 28.00 PUT @0.44 to Open

Sent: Oct 23 2009 10:09 AM
Subject: FILLED: #46 SLD 200 MSQWC @ 0.59
Account #XXXX-6950 FILLED: Order #46 SLD 200 MSQWC Nov09 28.00 PUT @0.59 to Close

In 23 minutes I made $3000 (a return of 34.1%).

I like this approach - you wait for the news and the big move, then fade the gap.
