Why do the ROI on the backtest and the ending equity summary not line up?

I can have an approach that has a roi of 20% and turns $100,000 into $106,000 and another with an roi of 12% that turns $100,000 into $140,000 ?

Is the ending value of the 2 year test in the equity summary the best way to compare the filters?

thx
