Standard Error (StdErr)

ParametersIndicator
Period
UsageStdErr(close,45)
StdErr(MA(10),50)
DescriptionStandard Error is a statistical measure of how well values fit the linear regression trend line for the data series. In short, the higher the error, the more volatility there is when looking at linear regression.

For example, below is an example where the standard error is used in conjunction with the linear regression slope, and r-squared to find stocks in a 45-day uptrend and the volatility around the trend line is low:

Fetcher[
45 day slope of the close is above 0
and rsquared(close,45) is above 0.50
and stderr(close,45) is below 0.25
and add column stderr(close,45)
and close is above 5.00
and average volume(30) is above 250000
]

Another example that indicates increasing volatility around a 60 day downtrend:

Fetcher[
60 day slope of the close is below 0
and stderr(close,60) has been increasing for the last 5 days
and rsquared(close,60) is above 0.50
and add column stderr(close,60)
and add column rsquared(close,60)
and close is above 5.00
and average volume(30) is above 250000
]
