Well, in part I am attempting to do here is to develop and optimize a dollar-neutral trading system (equal long and short dollar positions) using stocks that are statistically more overbought or oversold, and are highly likely to revert back to the mean. This is not about timing the market - I have tried that in the past with disastrous results. This is about creating above market returns with low overall volatility.

While I acknowledge that if you catch the tops and bottoms on these stocks you can make a bundle, that is not what this thread is about. Please - if you want to comment on the system that is being demonstrated real-time here, you are welcome. This discussion about "just play the 3x ETFs from their tops to bottoms" stuff is best placed in a separate thread.

Update:

Long Plays

ID - scored 3/6 on the Connors filters, and has moved more than 2 SD from its usual relationship with the SPY.
In on the open at 7.72, stop loss at 7.38 and profit target at 8.09 (set at open price +/- 1 ATR(10)).
STOPPED OUT at 7.38, for a loss of 4.40%

FDO - scored 2/6 on the Connors filters, and closed below the lower BB(20,2).
In on the open at 36.02, stop loss at 34.77 and profit target at 37.25 (set at open price +/- 1 ATR(10)).
Closed at 36.54, for a gain of 1.44%

ORLY - scored 4/6 on the Connors filters.
In on the open at 46.11, stop loss at 45.01 and profit target at 47.21 (set at open price +/- 1 ATR(10)).
PROFIT TARGET HIT. Sold at 47.21, for a gain of 2.39%

Closed at 33.00, for a gain of 0.95%

RGS - closed below the lower BB(20,2), and has moved more than 2 SD from its usual relationship with the SPY. Again a concern here is that this stock is currently below its MA(200), so no hits on the Connors filters.
In on the open at 13.78, stop loss at 13.05 and profit target at 14.50 (set at open price +/- 1 ATR(10)).
Closed at 14.20, for a gain of 3.05% (CLOSE TO PROFIT TARGET)

BP - Scored 5/6 on the Connors filters, closed above the upper BB(20,2), and RSI(2) is above 99.
In on the open at 37.71, stop loss at 39.34 and profit target at 36.08 (set at open price +/- 1 ATR(10)).
PROFIT TARGET HIT. Covered at 36.08, for a gain of 4.32%

Net change for today - a gain of 0.36%
Net change for this week - a gain of 1.90%

I may need to use 1.5 x ATR(10) as my triggers - these stops are a little tight.

Very few good long plays are being selected by the Composite long filter. Given that I closed out 3 shorts and 2 longs yesterday, I only need 1 new short to keep dollar neutrality.

Lots of good choices - DWA scored a composite 9, lots of 8's as well.

Looking at the charts, my choice is TUP - Tupperware. It scored a 6/6 on the Connors short filters, closed above its BB(20,2) by a LOT, its RSI(2) is 98.67, and it has moved more than 2 SD from its usual relationship with the SPY.

Also important - it closed at 43.67, and its MA(200) is at 44.485, its weekly MA(20) is at 44.55, and its weekly MA(50) is at 43.26.

Will short this at the open.

EDIT:

In on the open at 43.59, stop loss at 45.77 and profit target at 41.49.

Closed at 43.33, for a net gain of 0.60%

Net change for today - a gain of 0.08%
Net change for this week - a gain of 1.98%

Need to add one short play here to maintain dollar neutrality - or two shorts and one additional long play.

Looking at the short filter, there are a lot of good possibilities, but again the long filter is returning very few hits, none of which are very compelling. Therefore I'll add only 1 short play for tomorrow:

MON (Monsanto) - Scored a 5/6 on the Connors short filters, closed above its BB(20,2), its RSI(2) is above 99, and it has moved more than 2 SD from its usual relationship with the SPY.

Hello Kevin!
I'm glad to see someone is trading with this setup. I have been buying pullbacks for about six months now and its the only way I have been trading since the beginning of the year. I have noticed that if the stock does not go my way when I buy it then it will not come back around for maybe a week, tying up my money just to brake even. Now if the trade does not go my way when I first go long I just sell for the small loss. I have never went short but probably will some time soon.
Just thought I would let you know that I like your thread!
